We got to go to the Festival! And dance before the Prince!

Well, okay, maybe there weren’t any princes, but Ty Freedman (Ty the Pie Guy) and Associate Producer Sarah Winshall walked the red carpet at the inaugural San Francisco Web Festival! Three Pie Guy episodes screened in 120-seat theatre including Breakfast Pizza! and The Inseparable Egg! What a treat to see them on the big screen!

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 4.57.56 PMTy the Pie Guy was one of only 4 family shows honored at the festival and we met some amazing fellow creators, filmmakers and distributors through the festival.

Meanwhile, we’ve already started planning for Season 2! So spread the word, cross your fingers and make sure you’re subscribed to Ty the Pie Guy for some fun, bonus videos this summer! Check out our website for additional great easy recipes and lots of pie!

We had so much fun this season working with the awesome talented and adorable kids featured on the show. All our kids – some actors, some not – are pretty special! Here are a few to keep your eye on this year:

TyPieCoolWalk

Charlize diaz de Leon – who plays Ty’s little sister Rose – is whip smart, super funny and a charming soul. She loves pop culture, and is particularly obsessed with Once Upon A Time, which we liked to tease her about relentlessly on set. She has been with us the entire season and we can’t wait to see where Rose will pop in from come Season 2. She got a guest stint on the New Girl season finale which made us all cheer out loud! Dash Williams, (Kids React) who starred in our pilot episode Breakfast Pizza!, also starred in multiple episodes of Fresh Off The Boat this season! And be sure to check out Liv Horinouchi in Popcorn! and Bleau Essen in Vegans. These are just a few of the super cool kids who have made Ty the Pie Guy so much fun! Kids Rock!

For the big Pie Contest season finale, we brought back these kids and many more from the entire season. It was so much fun! I love creating healthy entertainment with Ty the Pie Guy, literally and figuratively.

Look for Ty the Pie Guy at VidCon this year. And follow Ty the Pie Guy on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news!

Have a great summer and keep creating!

awards_academynom_annieupdateWe are so excited for, and proud of, our friends at Dreamworks Animation for the amazing success of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2. Over $618 million in worldwide boxoffice and it continues to gain much deserved critical acclaim with multiple nominations and several awards under it’s high-flying belt: The Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film and 6 Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature Film and Best Director for Dean DeBlois. It has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. Fingers crossed for a win next Sunday, February 22! It would be a great nod to the film, the franchise (cause really, no offense to Toy Story 3, but How To Train Your Dragon should have taken the 2010 Oscar) and to the studio that has broken so much ground with their edgy and inspiring filmmaking and animation.

Check out the fun Dragons site http://dreamworksdragons.com for a deep dive into this spectacular world, which highlights not only the amazing movies, but also the TV show, the games, the products and all the characters. It’s all the dragons you’ll ever need in one place. This TVGla and Dreamworks franchise site was a 2014 W³ Awards Best in Show Winner!

Songs for all the seven ages inspired by the bard!

134 West presents O BABY MINE: Sing a Song of Shakespeare, a new indie album of children’s songs and lullabies inspired by, and taken from, Shakespeare’s plays.  Producer/Director Susan Lambert conceived this new concept album when she adapted the lyrics of Twelfth Night’s O Mistress Mine to sing to her infant son while rocking him to sleep.

Alas, poor Yorick... Sing a Song of Shakespeare with O Baby Mine.

An Appalachian Twelfth Night

In Musicals, Our Work, Theater, Uncategorized on September 24, 2013 at 1:56 pm
Shakespeare's Twelfth Night set in 1938 Appalachia is a foot-stompin' comedy with music!

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night set in 1938 Appalachia is a foot-stompin’ comedy with music!

An Appalachian Twelfth Night is a story of loss, love, chaos, laughter and music. 134 West was part of the premiere production in 2002 with Dancing Barefoot Productions and is ready to bring this amazing production to new theaters looking for an accessible Shakespeare show for the whole family. The original production charmed LA audiences with foot-stompin’ fun, sold out shows and rave reviews.

“Playfully conceived by Williams and touchingly rendered by director Susan Lambert, the staging further benefits from an extensive use of old-time folk music. It’s a toe-tapping, laugh spreading good time. ” Daryl Miller, LA Times

“Imaginatively helmed! The production exudes a captivating rural humor all its own.” – Julio Martinez, Variety

“Lusty folk tunes. Devastating straightforwardness… The Globe Theatre hasn’t seen anything like this. It’s one of the best and most innovative productions of Shakespeare’s lyric comedy.”
– Laura Hitchcock, CurtainUp

– A Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Nominee for best musical direction.

Robert L. Williams’ original adaptation of Shakespeare’s “play with music” stunned and delighted Los Angeles audiences aligning rich, traditional mountain music with the poetry of Shakespearean verse. Setting Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in an isolated coal-mining town in the thirties, it incorporates an Appalachian band “Rev. Karl and the Pikeville Pickers” and draws from the traditional folk music handed down from the Elizabethan ancestors of the mountain dwellers.
